Joint Venture

While I have this blog, which is more for my personal enjoyment, a couple of my friends and I have also decided to start another enthusiast's website called Asphalt Atlanta. It will be much of the same thing as this; event coverage, random car coverage, and other things relating to car culture. So as always, if you're a fan and want to check out another cool website, be sure to check it out at: https://sites.google.com/site/asphaltATL/home

The Varsity Meet, March 3rd, 2011

If you live anywhere near Atlanta, of anywhere in the southeast for that matter, you've probably heard of an Atlanta staple called the Varsity. For 83 years they've been providing many residents and tourists alike with the greasy but tasty burgers, fries, and shakes that everyone around has come to know and love. Maybe the reason this restaurant is so successful is the use of that great American simplicity; that something doesn't always have to be so flash and dash to be appreciated by the masses.

I guess this then brings me to the point of this posting. The first Thursday of every month the Varsity gets a little bit busier. As the sun goes down, a huge variety of different cars begin to show up from around the Atlanta area. At first, I imagine it was only a few guys who would meet up to hang out and talk cars, but now it has grown to almost every category of car enthusiast having something to show.

I feel like this was probably my best shot of the evening. A nice white Prelude, scraping slightly as it backed into a spot next to an equally nice white RSX.

This c class Benz was another one of my favorites, sporting one of the cleanest white on white setups I've seen in a while.

I love sleepers. And this BMW 5 series wagon had a V10 under the hood..

Stock and simple. Sometimes my favorite recipe.

This lifted Silverado was really nicely done in my opinion. Not too obnoxious of a lift, and the right amount of chrome. A testament to the kind of diversity you'll find at this show.

There's something about a BMW, sitting right, with halo's, that just makes the world a bit nicer place to hang out.

Nissan 240z, never washed, array of stickers, so much character.

There were also a couple plate-less Skylines. That's how you know they're legit...

This Supra had the corner by the olympic torch all to itself. Hard to see why anyone would protest it being there.

Some tasty CCW's on a tasty S2000..

"You're not foolin' me, cause I can see, the way you shake and shiver."

And what would Atlanta be without a donk Cutlass Supreme? Go big or go home.

The charcoal gray on Lexus's IS300 will always be an excellent color. In person it's just so right..

...And finally, you know it's a good event when the cops enjoy it as much as the spectators..

I hope my little post was able to give you some insight on the event, if you didn't know, but I also hope you veterans of the show will appreciate it just as much...
